wine producer

Region: Toscana

Fontodi has been owned by the Manetti family since 1968. Historically, the family is associated with the production of Terracotta tiles, a typical Florentine product. The Manetti family replanted the vineyards and renovated the winemaking facilities after acquiring the estate which was in a derelict state.
In 1980, the whole family moved to the estate and the younger generation of the family began to take over the daily operations of the winery. In the next vintage, 1981, their 100% Sangiovese Flaccianello della Pieve was born, alongside the Chianti Classico DOCG and Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, created by the young enologist Franco Bernabei with the Manetti brothers.
A combination of dedication to quality, and a strong connection to the land dating back generations guarantees an ongoing family commitment to producing wines truly reflective of the great potential of the Sangiovese grape.

Fontodi is a certified organic estate which extends over 130 hectares of which about 70 are planted with vines. They are located in the hills south of the town of Panzano at the heart of the Chianti Classico region.
More precisely, they are situated in the valley which lies south of the town of Panzano called the “Conca d’Oro” (the golden shell) because of its amphitheatre shape. The area is characterised by a unique combination of high altitude, calcar calcschist soil, lots of light, and a fantastic warm and dry micro-climate with a diverse range in temperatures.
In recent years, Fontodi have been revolutionising their single vineyard wine Vigna del Sorbo removing the Cabernet Sauvignon making it 100% Sangiovese.
