History

Le Macchiole was founded in 1975 by husband-and-wife Eugenio and Cinzia Campolmi. The pair are amongst the most important producers in Bolgheri and have contributed significantly to its growing eminence.
In 1991, the couple met their current enologist Luca d'Attoma, who has consistently interpreted this shared dream of theirs.
After the untimely passing of her husband a few years ago, Cinzia Merli is now running the winery with great enthusiasm, pursuing the objectives shared with him: producing high quality wines expressing the territory through their strong personality.

Estate

Bolgheri is situated on the Etruscan coast between the hills and the sea. This territory is far from the traditional areas of wine production in Tuscany, however, has risen to a position of high esteem, becoming a central player on the Tuscan wine scene. The first regulations for the appellation date back to 1983, whilst the DOC was established at the beginning of 1984.
Le Macchiole’s estates consists of nearly 26 hectares of vineyards, split into six different plots that are dotted around the Bolgheri appellation. They grow a wide range of grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
