Coffele

Region: Veneto

History

Coffele was founded after Giovanna Visconti married Giuseppe Coffele. She brought as a dowry to the marriage 25 hectares of vineyards located in Castelcerino in the Soave Classico area. After many years spent restoring the vineyards, in 1971 Giuseppe and Giovanna began making wine and founded the estate in 1971.
Today, children Alberto and Chiara run the winery, with Alberto working both as enologist and agronomist, and Chiara in marketing and PR. In addition, Coffele is the first producer in the Soave DOC Classico appellation that is certified organic.

Estate

The winery itself is located in Soave’s historical centre. As for the vineyards, Coffele own 25 hectares of prime hilly terroir in Castelcerino di Soave. Their estate is in one uninterrupted stretch and varies between 200m and 420m above sea level. This ensures that the vineyard is always well-ventilated, but low in humidity.
This single block is mainly devoted to the Garganega grape, featuring also Trebbiano di Soave and Chardonnay. In addition, the red grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated here.
To encourage biodiversity and incorporate organic principles of agriculture, Coffele encourage earthworms and horse manure (from their own horses!) to fertilise the earth and the vines.
