Controguerra Ferro di Re DOC

Region: Marche

Viticulture

Located about 10 km from the Adriatic coast, nestling in the hills at the feet of the Gran Sasso, lies the fertile land where these vines grow. South-facing, soil os fo medium density and rich in clay. The microclimate is influenced by the nearby Adriatic, helping to balance winter temperatures from dipping too low (due to the vineyard's proximity to the Gran Sasso at 3000 m.asl).

Vinification

The two grapes are harvested at different stages - the Cabernet in mid-September, and Montepulciano mid-October. Fermented in stainless steel tanks with a long maceration and frequent punching-down. Cabernet grapes are aged in Allier oak barriques, and the Montepulciano in oak barrels for 18 months. Finally the wine is aged in the bottle for 6 - 8 months.

Grape Varieties

A blend of Montepulciano and Cebernet Sauvignon
