Sardus Pater

Region: Sardegna

History

Cantina Sardus Pater is located on the island of Sant'Antioco, in the south-western part of Sardinia. Established in 1949 as a cooperative, it started operating in 1955. Over the years, the production of wines has been improved extensively and has focused mainly on the development of the Carignano grape variety.

Estate

The grapes, provided by the 200 members, come from an area of 300 hectares. Most of the vineyards are planted with Carignano and the oldest of these are located on the island of Sant'Antioco. These vineyards are at least 50 years old, planted on sandy soils with low yields per hectare that produce high quality berries. It is from these vineyards that the Cantina produces its finest red wines.
Since 1994, the winery has been producing Vermentino. There is also a small production of Muscat and Nasco and of Monica and Cannonau grapes.
